A 41-year-old man named Godwin Okon has been taken into custody by the Delta State Police Command for defiling a 13-year-old girl who is his neighbor’s daughter.
The suspect, Godwin, stated in a video interview that was uploaded on X by the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, that he defiled the 13-year-old girl after the mother left her and her brothers in his care while she went to the market.
The suspect said that it occurred on January 3, 2025, after her mother, a close neighbor, placed her and her siblings in my care. However, before that, I informed her mother that I was unable to care for her since she had never previously asked me to watch her kids. I was therefore taken aback that day.
I informed her that I couldn’t because I wanted to sleep and I wasn’t sure how to keep an eye on the kids. Then she started begging.
When the mother eventually left them with me, I went inside their home and instructed her younger brother to set up the parlor. I then went to the girl and instructed her to lower the window and parlor curtains. I then pushed her to bed and shared a bed with her before departing.
Later, a man who owns the place where the young girl is learning to work knocked on my door, and when I answered, he slapped me. I think the young girl told them. I feel ashamed of myself right now.
“I don’t have a wife or kids. All I have is a friend, and she’s already gone. I am from Uyo, Akwa Ibom, and I only have a mother.
The Delta PRO added, “Parents, be mindful of neighbors you ask to take care of your children in your absence,” as a warning to parents in the film. In Ogborikoko, a mother asked her 41-year-old suspect neighbor to watch her kids while she went to the market.
This suspect broke into the neighbor’s home before she returned, saw her 13-year-old daughter, and viciously defiled her.
