Five of the eighteen passengers who were abducted last week along the Akure-Benin highway have been rescued by Amotekun Corps, the codename for the Ondo State Security Network.
Three herders who gang-raped a 75-year-old grandmother at Ifira Akoko were among the suspected kidnappers who were taken into custody.
Security personnel in the state are working around the clock to combat the surge of bandits entering the state, according to Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, commander of Ondo Amotekun.
He attributed the recent rise in the state’s kidnap cases to the entry of bandits.
Adeleye promised that the farmers who were kidnapped last weekend close to Akure Airport would be returned safely.
The rescued victims claimed that during their five days in the kidnapper’s cave, they just drank water and not food.
Before raping her, the septuagenarian claimed that her attackers held her by the neck and pulled her to the bush for roughly twenty minutes.
Adeleye stated that following an inquiry, the individuals would face charges in court.
