Newcastle to battle Chelsea

Newcastle to battle Chelsea for Osimhen in summer

Napoli is willing to trade Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after his loan at Galatasaray expires this summer, and Premier League powerhouse Newcastle United has joined Chelsea in the pursuit of the Nigerian.

Several English clubs and Saudi Arabian teams have expressed interest in the 26-year-old, who has scored 17 goals in 22 games for the Turkish league leaders.

Newcastle has rekindled its interest in Osimhen after withdrawing from talks last summer over the striker’s £113 million asking price. The striker’s release clause is now allegedly down to about £60 million.

The Magpies are worried about Osimhen’s pay, though, as he previously made over £200,000 a week at Napoli before taking a lower salary of £110,000 at Galatasaray.

Although they are keeping an eye on the issue, Arsenal, who made an initial attempt to recruit Osimhen in 2016 after his valiant performance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, has turned its attention to Alexander Isak of Newcastle.

Osimhen’s possible arrival at St. James’ Park may cause Isak to leave since the Gunners are among the teams interested in the Swedish striker.

After a falling out with the Italian club’s management and turning down offers from Chelsea and Saudi Arabia on personal terms, Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli last summer without a buyout option.

The striker decided to stay in Turkey even though his loan agreement had a condition that would have allowed him to leave in January. He has helped Galatasaray keep a six-point lead at the top of the Super Lig and has made an impression in the Europa League, scoring five goals in six games.

Napoli recently turned down the Turkish powerhouses’ €65 million offer for a permanent contract, with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis allegedly demanding a greater price for the forward, who still has more than two years remaining on his agreement with the Serie A team.
