COMPARATIVE STUDIES OF PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF RIPED AND UNRIPED BANANA PEELS OBTAINED FROM UYO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

COMPARATIVE STUDIES OF PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF RIPED AND UNRIPED BANANA PEELS OBTAINED FROM UYO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

ABSTRACT This study on the comparative study of proximate composition of ripe and unripe banana fruit peel obtained from Uyo L.G.A. was carried out using standard analytical procedures. The proximate analysis of the samples showed that ripe banana peels had higher contents of protein, crude fibre and moisture content while unripe banana had higher contents of fat, ash, carbohydrate and energy. Therefore, the researcher recommends that banana peel could be used as sources of dietary energy and have values that…

CHARACTERIZATION OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACTS OF Azadirachta indica LEAVES (DOGOJARO) USING FOURIER TRANSFORM INFRARED

CHARACTERIZATION OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACTS OF Azadirachta indica LEAVES (DOGOJARO) USING FOURIER TRANSFORM INFRARED

ABSTRACT The characterization of Azadirachta indica was carried out using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrophotometer. The result reveals the present of the following compounds which include Aliphatic amines, Alkanes and Primary amines. The intensity of these peaks was used to determine the relative abundance of each functional group in the plant sample. The results obtained from this study provide a comprehensive understanding of the chemical composition of the plant and may be responsible for the use of this plant in…

A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF RAW, BOILED AND ROASTED UNRIPE Musa paradisiaca (PLANTAIN) PULP

A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF RAW, BOILED AND ROASTED UNRIPE Musa paradisiaca (PLANTAIN) PULP

ABSTRACT The study was design to determine the comparative proximate composition of raw, boiled and roasted unripe Musa paradisiaca (plantain) pulp. The study was carried out using standard analytical method. The result of the study revealed that the ash, total carbohydrate and caloric value were significantly higher (P<0.05) in roasted than the boiled and raw plantain, crude fibre and moisture content were significantly higher in boiled plantain when compared to the raw and roasted plantain. Therefore, either of the two…

THE EFFECT OF SOAKINGS ON THE ANTI-NUTRIENT COMPOSITION OF YELLOW GARRI

THE EFFECT OF SOAKINGS ON THE ANTI-NUTRIENT COMPOSITION OF YELLOW GARRI

ABSTRACT This study on the effect of soaking on the antinutrient composition of yellow garri was carried out using standard analytical methods. The result of the study revealed the following: HCN (1.528±0.038 mg/100g), Phytate (0.313±0.018 mg/100g), Tannins (0.762±0.015 mg/100g) and Oxalate (1.030±0.04 mg/100g) for soaked garri while unsoaked had HCN (3.46±0.070), Phytate (0.446±0.015 mg/100g), Tannins (0.674±0.016 mg/100) and oxalates (1.901±0.014 mg/100g). The concentrations of the antinutrient were below the lethal dose in both samples. Which implies that the garri is…

PRODUCTION OF BAR SOAP AND THE DETERMINATION OF IT’S QUALITY

PRODUCTION OF BAR SOAP AND THE DETERMINATION OF IT’S QUALITY

ABSTRACT The bar soap was produced using standard methods and the quality parameters were determined with the use of standard analytical procedures. The result of the study revealed the following: texture of the soap was (hard), foaming stability (stable), pH (10.0), time taken to dissolve (15 min. 25 sec.) and colour (green). While that of the canoe soap was hard, very stable, 9.0, 16min 34 sec., and brown respectively. The chemical characteristic of the soap produced was comparable with that…
