The University of Uyo began the process of relocating the Faculty of Arts from the Town Campus along Ikpa road, where it had been from inception, to its Main Campus at Nwaniba.
Specifically, The Dean and his staffers, Heads of the 8 component depts (from English to History, Foreign Languages to Linguistics, Religious Studies to Music, and Philosophy) and all their Professors are taking up office spaces in the new Faculty Complex. Others will follow, subsequently.
Theatre Arts had earlier relocated, and the erstwhile Communication Arts Dept is now a Faculty on its own, with 8 Depts, and a headquarters in the Annexe CampusFaculty of Arts is one of the foremost schools in the University
When the defunct University of Cross River State came into being in 1983, one of its foundation faculties was the Faculty of Arts, with the eminent scholar of Communication and Language, Professor Solomon, O. Unoh as the first dean (1983- 1987).
The current Dean is Professor Joseph Akawu Ushie of the department of English Prof. Ushie took over from Sister ProfessIfor Anthonia Essien, now DVC Academic, after being elected Dean on March 4, 2021. The new Faculty edifice is a beauty to behold!
