In the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, suspected herdsmen assaulted Amegu village, Nkalaha community, on Sunday, murdering multiple persons and burning buildings.
The attack is thought to be retaliation for the alleged slaughter of local herdsmen’s cattle.
Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, a local native who confirmed the attack to PUNCH Metro, claimed that the attackers broke into the hamlet early on Sunday and started a violent rampage that left several people dead and property valued at billions of naira damaged.
“At this time, I am unaware of the number of casualties. He stated, “We are still searching for and removing the dead bodies, particularly those that were killed on the farms.”
According to a different version, one of the people slain in the incident was the pastor of a nearby Pentecostal church.
The source, who requested anonymity to avoid being identified, claimed that the cows’ deaths were not the locals’ fault.
“Their cows were not killed by us. Members of the Eastern Security Network murdered the cows in the forest.
Mrs. Ifeoma Peace Agwu, the chairperson of the Isheilu Local Government Area, attested to the occurrence.
“We are currently transporting the victims’ remains to the mortuary,” she stated. I am unable to discuss it much at this time. We’ll provide additional information later.
However, as of the time this report was filed on Sunday, DSP Joshua Ukandu, the state’s police public relations officer, said he was unaware of the occurrence when our contact asked for his response.
