ASSESSMENT OF NATURAL PRODUCT FOR THE PREVENTION OF CORROSION

ASSESSMENT OF NATURAL PRODUCT FOR THE PREVENTION OF CORROSION

ABSTRACT The effect of Carica papaya extract of natural product for the prevention of corrosion inhibition of mild steel in acidic medium has been investigated. The study was carried out using the weight loss technique. The results obtained show Carica papaya leaves extract and potassium iodide as potential inhibitors of mild steel corrosion in H₂SO₄. the result revealed that the weight loss for the corrosion of mild steel coupons in H2SO4 decrease with increasing concentration of acid, rate of corrosion…

ASSESSING THE LEVEL OF SOME HEAVY METALS (LEAD, COBALT, NICKEL, CADMIUM AND CHROMIUM) IN WASTE WATER COLLECTED FROM A FISHPOND LOCATED IN AKWA IBOM STATE POLYTECHNIC BIOLOGICAL GARDEN

ASSESSING THE LEVEL OF SOME HEAVY METALS (LEAD, COBALT, NICKEL, CADMIUM AND CHROMIUM) IN WASTE WATER COLLECTED FROM A FISHPOND LOCATED IN AKWA IBOM STATE POLYTECHNIC BIOLOGICAL GARDEN

ABSTRACT The level of some heavy metals lead (Pb), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd) and Chromium (Cr) in wastewater sample collected from a fishpond located in Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic biological garden was determined using standard analytical procedures. The result revealed that the wastewater contained the analyzed heavy metals in the order Pb >Co> Cr >Cd>Ni. The concentration of some the metals analyzed were above the WHO recommended limit but nickel was below. Therefore, the wastewater can contaminate the…

LEAF EPIDERMAL STUDIES OF Ixora chinensis LAM

LEAF EPIDERMAL STUDIES OF Ixora chinensis LAM

ABSTRACT Ixora  chinensis Lam. belong to the Rubiaceae family (Chinese Ixora) and is commonly used traditionally and in folklore medicine in treating various disease. The present study investigated the epidermal characters of Ixora  chinensis leaf. The epidermal studies include present of stomata on the abaxial surface (anomocytic) and absent of stomata on the adaxial surface. The anticlinical wall pattern was undulate to straight in both adaxial and abaxial surfaces. Trichomes were absent on both surfaces, epidermal cell shape irregular to…

Leaf epidermal studies of Celosia cristata

ABSTRACT Leaf epidermal studies of Celosia cristata was carried out using standard procedure. Upper surface (adaxial) and lower surface (abaxial), showed the following features which include; irregular and polygonal epidermal cell shape respectively, Anticlinal wall pattern was undulate for abaxial and straight for adaxial surface. They showed anisocytic/anomocytic stomatal type on the adaxial surface and Anisocytic/Anomalous on the abaxial surface. The trichome is absent on both surfaces. The stomatal distribution was amphistomatic on both surfaces. These features could be used…

ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF FUNGI ASSOCIATED WITH SOME CEREAL FLOURS

ABSTRACT Cereals is a grain used for food, examples are wheat, maize, rye, millet, sorghum, oat, rice, barley etc. it is a breakfast food made from roasted grain, typically eaten with milk. Cereals are seeds/grains of grasses and are cultivated in order to obtain the largest bounty of their fruit (seed) which consist of germ, endosperm, bran and is also referred to as the caryopsis. The aim of this study is to isolate and identify fungi associated with some cereal…
