EFFECT OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF Morinda citrifolia LEAVES ON HORMONAL PROFILE (TESTOSTERONE, FOLLICLE STIMULATING HORMONE, LUTEINIZING HORMONE) OF MALE ALBINO WISTAR RATS EXPOSED TO ARSENIC TRIOXIDE

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to examine the effect of ethanolic extract of Morinda citrifolia leaves on male reproductive hormones (Testosterone, LH, FSH) of male albino wistar rats exposed to arsenic trioxide. 20 male albino rats were randomly assigned five (5) groups of four (4) rats each. Group 1 (the normal control) was fed with normal rat chow and distilled water for 14 days, Group 2 (the negative control) was orally administered 25% (3.65mg/kg) of the LD50 (14.6mg)…

EFFECT OF ADMINSTRATION OF EHANOLIC LEAVES EXTRACTS OF Adrographis paniculata and Phyllanthus amarus ON LIVER ENZYMES IN AN HEAVY METAL TREATED ALBINO WISTAR RATS

EFFECT OF ADMINSTRATION OF EHANOLIC LEAVES EXTRACTS OF Adrographis paniculata and Phyllanthus amarus ON LIVER ENZYMES IN AN HEAVY METAL TREATED ALBINO WISTAR RATS

ABSTRACT The effect of administration of ethanol leave extracts of Andrographis paniculata and Phyllanthus amarus on serum liver enzymes in albino wistar rats treated with cadmium was investigated. Twenty five (25) male rats (130-170g) were randomly assigned five groups of five animals each. Group 1,2,3 and 4 were treated with 30% of LD50 of cadmium (224.8) each. Group 1 was further administered with 400mg/kg of Andrographis paniculata  and Phyllanthus amarus at 50:50 dosage ratio. Group 2 and 3 were administered…

DETERMINATION OF MICRO-MINERAL ELEMENTS CONTENT OF Irvingia gabonensis (OGBONO SEED)

DETERMINATION OF MICRO-MINERAL ELEMENTS CONTENT OF Irvingia gabonensis (OGBONO SEED)

ABSTRACT This study was aimed at determining the micro- mineral composition of Irvingia gabonensis seed. The sample was obtained from the local market in Ikot Osurua. Standard analytical methods were used in carryout the analysis, the result of the study revealed the following Fe (3.104 ± 0.002mg/100g), Cu (0.722 ± 0.001 mg/100g), Mn (0.514 ± 0.014mg/100g) and Zn (0.520 ± 0.244mg/100g). this result indicate that Irvingia gabonensis seed is a poor source of micro-mineral and therefore, it is recommended that…

COMPARATIVE ANALAYSIS OF THE CALCIUM CONTENT OF SOME LEAFY VEGETABLES USED FOR SOUP MEALS IN AKWA IBOM STATE

COMPARATIVE ANALAYSIS OF THE CALCIUM CONTENT OF SOME LEAFY VEGETABLES USED FOR SOUP MEALS IN AKWA IBOM STATE

ABSTRACT The leaves of Gnetum africana, Lasianthera africana, Hensia crinata, Telfairia occidentalis, vernonia amygdalina was obtained, air-dried, and then reduced into powdery form. The powder obtained was used to determine the calcium content of each vegetables following standard laboratory procedures. The result revealed the presence of calcium to be higher in Hensia crinata (42.2050.289) followed by Gnetum africana (35.1750.049), Vernonia amygdalina (15.6250.120), Telfairia occidentalis (15.160.071) and Lasianthera africana (11.6950.403). The presence of calcium justifies the medicinal potential of these leafy…

ASSESSMENT OF BACTERIA FROM PREPARED GARRI SOLD IN DIFFERENT EATERY IN AKWA IBOM STATE POLYTECHNIC CAMPUS

ASSESSMENT OF BACTERIA FROM PREPARED GARRI SOLD IN DIFFERENT EATERY IN AKWA IBOM STATE POLYTECHNIC CAMPUS

ABSTRACT Garri is commonly consumed cassava product in Nigeria. Poorly processed/stored garri could  pose serious health risk to consumer. This study revealed  the microbial  load from ready to eat garri sold within eatery and restaurant in Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Campus. The total bacteria count isolated from the prepared (ready to eat) garri in the different restaurants showed that sample C had the highest bacteria count of (6.8×104 cfu/g) while sample B had the least count of (3.3×104 cfu/g). the…
