THE EFFECT OF SAND PARTICLE SIZE ON THE THERMAL INSULATION EFFICIENCY OF CEMENT CONCRETE

THE EFFECT OF SAND PARTICLE SIZE ON THE THERMAL INSULATION EFFICIENCY OF CEMENT CONCRETE

ABSTRACT This study was aimed at investigating the effect of sand particle size on the thermal insulation efficiency of cement concrete. Standard laboratory methods were employed in carrying out this study. The study revealed that sample D, with the radius of 2.8 x 10 –4 m has the highest thermal insulation efficiency value of 29.60% and sand sample A, with the radius of 3.5 x 10 –4 m, has the lowest thermal insulation efficiency value of 0.32%. This implies that…

INSTALLATION OF SOLAR LIGHTING SYSEM

INSTALLATION OF SOLAR LIGHTING SYSEM

ABSTRACT This study was aimed at installation of solar lighting system in Physics Laboratory. It was carried out using standard methods. The solar controller type used in this study was Pulse width modulation (PWM). The device had an output current of 18A – 22A, voltage of 12V – 22V and load of 0 – 1.5 KVA. The solar system worked effectively and cost no further operational cost, when compared to a 1.5KVA petrol generator, it was costly but for the…

EFFECT OF SAND PARTICLE SIZE ON THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF CEMENT CONCRETE

EFFECT OF SAND PARTICLE SIZE ON THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF CEMENT CONCRETE

ABSTRACT The effect of sand particles size on the thermal conductivity of concrete was investigated. Cement concrete was made sing sand particles of sizes 3.5×10-4m, 2.6×10-4m, 2.5×10-4m and 1.9×10-4m by radius as the aggregate. Thermal conductivity of the cement concrete was determined using the Lee’s disc apparatus method. The result showed that sample A with radius 3.5×10-4m had the highest thermal conductivity value of 166.46W/mK followed by that of  sample B with sand particle radius 2.6×10-4m  with the thermal conductivity…

DETERMINATION OF THE SURFACE TENSION OF DIFFERENT SOAP FILMS

DETERMINATION OF THE SURFACE TENSION OF DIFFERENT SOAP FILMS

ABSTRACT Surface tension is the force that causes the surface of a liquid to act like a stretched elastic skin. It is measured in N/m. surface tension is very unique yet some organisms use it to their advantage. Cohesive force causes the tension and is responsible for the shape of water drops. Surface tension can be used in the production or manufacturing of rainproof and is important as it is a good indicator if any change are occurring in the…

DETERMINATION OF RATE OF COOLING OF DIFFERENT ENGINE OIL SAMPLES

DETERMINATION OF RATE OF COOLING OF DIFFERENT ENGINE OIL SAMPLES

ABSTRACT Determination of cooling rate of different engine oil samples was carried out successfully. Within the limit of experimental errors, it was discovered that sample A has the highest cooling rate of 1.2 oC/min followed by sample D with cooling rate of 1.17 oC/min followed by sample C with cooling rate of 1.14 oC/min followed B with the cooling rate of 1.11 oC/min. The present study however, verified experimentally that all the samples are good for machinery consumption, since they…

A STUDY ON A STRETCHING BEHAVIOUR OF RUBBER BAND

A STUDY ON A STRETCHING BEHAVIOUR OF RUBBER BAND

ABSTRACT This study on the stretching behaviour of rubber band was carried out using standard laboratory method, the study revealed that at (L = 0.16895m and e = 0.001845m), (L=0.1883m and e =3.0135m), (L=0.30m and e = 0.2198m), (L=0.3766m and e= 0.219m and (L=0.4375m and 0.2807m) the value of the Young’s modulus were 2.19N/m2, 1.454N/m2, 9.5N/m2, 20.06N/m2, and 12.827N/m2 respectively. This shows that at smaller length of the rubber band with small extension the rubber band showed a lower value…

CONSTRUCTION OF INTRUDER TOUCH ALARM CIRCUIT

CONSTRUCTION OF INTRUDER TOUCH ALARM CIRCUIT

ABSTRACT This project focuses on the construction of touch alarm circuit which is capable of alerting the owner of the present of an individual. When the  circuit  is power the  transistors (T1T2) remained reverse bias and no current is seen flowing through them (cut-off mode). Once the human  hand comes in contact with the two probes connected in one panel simultaneously, the T1 becomes forward  bias and a  signal is  sent through the emitter to the base of T2 which …

ROAD TRAFFIC AND AIRCRAFT NOISE, THEORETICAL ASSESSMENT AND EFFECTS IN HUMAN HEALTH

ROAD TRAFFIC AND AIRCRAFT NOISE, THEORETICAL ASSESSMENT AND EFFECTS IN HUMAN HEALTH

ABSTRACT Noise at residential and work places have been reviewed. It was noticed that noise impacts, causes hearing loss, which can be temporary or permanent. People often experienced temporary distress after leaving a noisy place although hearing loss recovered within a few hours is a sign that, if one continues to be exposed to the noise, hearing can be permanently damaged. Permanent hearing damage can be caused immediately by sudden, extremely loud, explosive noises. Hearing loss was not only the…
