How Police Raid Criminal Hideouts In River State

During a raid on various criminal hideouts in Kom Kom community, Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Saturday, the Rivers State Police Command arrested four suspects and retrieved a number of exhibits, including one round of live 7.62×51mm ammunition.

Several plastic containers containing liquid substances suspected of being hard narcotics were found by the police following the sting operation at the hideouts.

The Rivers State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP The revelation was made by Grace Iringe-Koko in a signed news release released on Monday.

Iringe-Koko added that one of the suspects confessed during questioning to being a member of a criminal syndicate that carried out numerous acts of terrorism in Oyigbo and the surrounding area.

 “Later that day, at approximately 1430 hours, operatives from the Hawk Unit carried out a targeted raid at Blessing Street, Kom-Kom in Oyigbo Local Government Area, acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of criminal elements,” she added. Four male suspects were apprehended as a result of the operation: “Joseph Acholam, age 23, from Arochukwu LGA, Abia State; Shedrack David, age 22, from Ikotumoesen, Eseni Udim LGA, Akwa Ibom State; Joshua Ibe, age 25, from Amadugba, Orlu LGA, Imo State; and Peter Victor, age 38, from Una Eket, Akwa Ibom State.”

One cartridge of 7.62 x 51 mm live ammunition and containers containing liquid substances thought to be hard narcotics are among the items found on the accused.

The accused acknowledged during questioning that they were a member of a criminal conspiracy that carried out numerous acts of terrorism in Oyigbo and the adjacent environs. They are now offering useful information to support subsequent investigations, such as those aimed at capturing other syndicate members and recovering more weapons.

The state commissioner of police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, reaffirmed SP Iringe-Koko’s pledge to provide the state with effective law enforcement.

SP Iringe-Koko claims that CP Adepuju has sworn to do everything in his power to stop crime in the state.

She clarified that at around one in the morning on Saturday, command personnel stopped a truck carrying what they believed to be stolen goods from a telecom company on the East-West route.The Rivers State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, continues to strengthen efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.

During a normal stop-and-search operation along the East-West Road at around 0100 hours, Rumuji Division officers stopped a black Toyota Sienna with registration number ABIA, APR 455 HW. A male suspect named Frank Ukpebitere was the driver of the car.Officers inspected the vehicle and found that it was carrying 48 VDC Power System Cabinets, weighing 2,000 tons, which were identified as belonging to Airtel Telecommunications Company.

“These things, which are suspected of being stolen, were transported without a suitable explanation or supporting documents from the suspect. As investigations proceed, the suspect and the recovered evidence are currently being held by the police.
