HEAVY METAL BIOACCUMULATION IN VERTEBRAE AND TISSUE FLESH OF ATLANTIC MACKEREL

HEAVY METAL BIOACCUMULATION IN VERTEBRAE AND TISSUE FLESH OF ATLANTIC MACKEREL

ABSTRACT Heavy metals bioaccumulation in vertebrae and tissue flesh of Atlantic mackerel (Scombia scombrus) were investigate with standard analytical procedures. The vertebral bone recorded Lead (Pb) (0.016 ± 0.002), Cadmium (Cd) (<0.001 ± 0.000), Nickel (Ni) (0.035 ± 0.002), Chromium (Cr) (0.05 ± 0.002), and Zinc (Zn) (0.153 ± 0.002). The tissue flesh revealed for Lead (Pb) (0.009 ±0.001), Cadmium (Cd) (<0. 001 ± 00.000), Nickel (Ni) (0.012 ± 0.002), Chromium (Cr) (0.006 ± 0.001) and Zinc (Zn) (0.044 ±…

LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP AND CONDITION FACTOR OF Mormyrus rume (ELEPHANT SNOUT FISH)

LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP AND CONDITION FACTOR OF Mormyrus rume (ELEPHANT SNOUT FISH)

ABSTRACTS The length-weight relationship and condition factor Mormyrus rume from Itak Nyanyangha landing site along Cross River, Itu Akwa Ibom State, was conducted on the month of (September 2019). A total of thirty eight (38) fish samples were bought. The length-weight relationship and condition factor (K) were determined using the equation W= alb and K = Wx 100/Lb  respectively. The highest weight recorded was 278.86 while the least was 11.44g. in terms of lengths, smallest fish was 19cm and the…

THE POTENTIAL OF WATER YAM LEAVES EXTRACT AGAINST FUNGI OF WHITE YAM ROT (Dioscorea rotundata)

THE POTENTIAL OF WATER YAM LEAVES EXTRACT AGAINST FUNGI OF WHITE YAM ROT (Dioscorea rotundata)

ABSTRACT Antimitotic effect of water yam leaves extract using ethanol and aqueous as extractants at different concentration on post-harvest pathogenic fungi woe investigated. Pathogenicity test revealed that fusarium oxysponim, Rhizopus stotonifer, Bacillus subtilis, and Aspergillums niger were the causal organism of deteriorations in the white yam tuber. Ethanol was more effective than aqueous extract in controlling the establishment of the test pathogens in vitro and in vivo. Ethanol extract exhibited the highest potency in inhibition with increase in concentration, this…

PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF Tetrapleura tetraptera FRUITS

PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF Tetrapleura tetraptera FRUITS

ABSTRACT This study was aim at determining the proximate composition of Tetrapleura tetraptera fruit. The sample was collected from a local market (Urua Ator) in Ikot Ekpene L.G.A., and standard analytical methods were used to analyze the samples. The result of the study revealed the following; Moisture (20.52±0.05%), Ash (15.20±0.07%), crude fibre (20.95±0.15%), crude fat (8.98±0.09%), crude protein (25.10±0.19%), carbohydrate (29.77±0.06%), and caloric value (300.30±0.18%). This indicate that the fruit contains some rich nutritional components as such, it is recommended…

PROXIMATE ANALYSIS OF Mucuna pruriens (VELVET BEAN)

PROXIMATE ANALYSIS OF Mucuna pruriens (VELVET BEAN)

ABSTRACT The proximate analysis of Mucuna pruriens was analysed using the method of AOAC (1980). The caloric value was calculated from crude protein, crude fat, crude fibre, carbohydrate, moisture and ash content. The result shows that  mucuna pruriens contain moisture 12.31±0.85, ash 31.09±0.127, crude fibre 11.69±0.092, crude fat 18.09±0.120, crude protein 2.20±0.040, carbohydrate 65.10±0.020. This study concluded that Mucuna pruriens is high in carbohydrate and low in crude protein.     TABLE OF CONTENTS Title Page    –         –         –         –        …
