Sunday Echege, 33, of Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani village, Nsukka LGA, Enugu State, was arrested by the Enugu State Police Command through its agents assigned to Okpuje Division for allegedly severing his wife Chinonso Echege’s left wrist due to infidelity.

Echege was taken into custody on Sunday, according to a statement released on Tuesday by SP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer.
According to the statement, the machete used in the incident was found on the suspect, and the arrest was made possible by the help of law-abiding community members.
According to Ndukwe, initial inquiries showed that the suspect, who has admitted to the crime, stated he acted because he believed his wife was having extramarital affairs.
When the investigations are finished, the suspect will be arraigned in court.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been instructed by Commissioner of Police CP Kanayo Uzuegbu to guarantee a comprehensive and prompt investigation, followed by the suspect’s prosecution.
In addition, he advised couples to settle their problems amicably and legally rather than turning to violent criminal activity.
