ABSTRACT
This study was aimed at investigating the influence of Information and Communication Technology on media Performance (a study of Redemption FM). The objectives of this were: to find out if information and communication technologies are used by Redemption FM Abak, to find out the tools of ICTs used in Redemption FM Abak, To find out the effectiveness of tools of communication, and to find out if information on ICTs contribute to the effectiveness of operation of Redemption FM Abak. The study used a survey research design. The sample size for the study was 5 and simple random sampling was used to administer the questionnaire to the respondents. The findings of this study revealed that; Redemption FM makes use of Information and Communication Technology, the ICT tools used in Redemption FM Abak are Computers and multifunctional MP3, IVR and Antennas, FM radio transmitter and STL links, the ICT tools used at Redemption FM are highly effective, ICT contribute to the effectiveness of operation of Redemption FM. The researcher therefore recommend that media houses should expend resources in ICT gadgets, in order to enhance journalism profession. CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
A fundamental and profound change is taking place in this new millemium and the role of information communication technologies (ICT) in it cannot be lost it is a change that is dramatically acting the existing business norms and paradigms of the words, bringing about fundamentally new way of looking at and doing things, especially in the mass media. The change is orchestrated through information communication technology.
Salawu (2007. 19) Citing Tiomiyu (2003) defeines information communications technology (ICTs as “an electronic technology for creating acquiring, storing , processing, communicating and using information” for cartel (2008) Information Technology (IT) is the communication tools such as mobile phones etc. for storing analyzing and distributing information of all kinds, including text (Words) numbers and pictures.
No doubt is has became the had mark tools to economic advancement no wonder too, every human endeavor rules on its transformation and success. The world encyclopeadia (1993: 83) refers to technology as all ways people use their inventions and discoveries to satisfy their needs and desires. From the fore going definitions, it is apparent that ICTS have are thing in common, the use of electronic devices to store, retrieve and communicate information ICTS have become so powerful and ubiquitous instruments not only in the economic, political, medical academic and scientific spheres, but also in the media as it has pervaded and transformed verticality the world almost overnight.
The media of mass communication has not alternative than to embrace this new technology which Egwu (2003) labels the new god in their duty operations. The ICTS have far-reading implications for the Nigeria Media especially with the appearance of the global system of mobile communication (GSM) computers, electronic publishing digital photography, satellite printing, digital media, digital printing etc. it is against this background that this research examine the influence of information communication on technologies (ICTs) in mass media organizations with particular reference to the Redemption FM, Abak.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The modern technology era has increasingly paved the way and created impact in the communication world with the result and other reason much emphasis therefore should be laid on procuring digitalized equipment to matter what or much it cost. The role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the mass media cannot be over emphasized. The emergence of ICTs in the media industry is a kin to the invention of the printing press in the 1450s. pmor to the coming of the press, circulation of articles and information and mass production of books was by copying which was not any cumbersome but tedious and took several years to accomplish. But information and communication technology revolutionized mass circulation of books and printed materials.
News gathering and analysis was really tedious and time consuming but with the invention of artificial intelligence (HI) which is a novel technology journalists annotated news coverage. Those and many other problems solved by information and communication technology in the mass media sector necessitate this study on the influence of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on media performance with a close reference to redemption FM, Abak.
