After having his friend Safillahi Muhammad over for dinner at his house, a guy known as Iliayasu Mohammed is accused of killing him.
According to reports, Mohammed brought his friend to his home in the Federal Capital Territory’s Dantata Village, where he fed him before slashing at him with a cutlass.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT police command, acknowledged the event.
Adeh said that on February 13, 2025, at around 1:30 PM, police officers responded to a distress call.
She further mentioned that Muhammad had numerous cutlass wounds on his head and torso and was asleep in a pool of blood when the cops arrived.
“The FCT Police Command responded to a distress call regarding a suspected homicide in Dantata Village at approximately 1:30 pm on February 13, 2025,” Adeh stated. Iliayasu Mohammed, 23, of Dakwa, Municipal Area Council, Abuja, was arrested after officers swiftly responded to the spot. He is charged with the vicious killing of Safillahi Muhammad, his friend.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect served the victim food after luring him to his house. Mohammed assaulted the victim with a cutlass while he was eating, wounding his head and torso several times. The man was taken to a hospital after police discovered him unresponsive in a pool of blood, where he was declared dead.
According to her, investigators found that Mohammed was a former prisoner who had connections to an infamous gang that preys on motorcycle riders for theft.
Adeh went on to say that he confessed to the murder and gave details about the syndicate’s activities while being questioned.
“Further investigations showed that Mohammed is an ex-convict,” Adeh stated. He confessed to the murder during interrogation and revealed his membership in a criminal organization run by a man named Hassan, who is still at large. This group has a reputation for stealing motorcycles from their victims.
“The police are currently looking for other gang members who have escaped. After the inquiry is over, Mohammed will be charged in court.
Residents are urged to remain alert and notify law enforcement of any suspicious activity by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command. The statement further stated that the Command is committed to ensuring everyone’s safety and security.
