ABSTRACT

This “SIWES” is a document that contains the experience which I had and the projects witnessed during the four months Industrial Training at Basse Engineering & Michel Ltd. It is profoundly based on office work and site visits. It is discussed with an overview of the necessary drawings. The report is described with an overview of the types of work undertaken by Basse Engineering & Michel Ltd and the project participated, which also plays a vital role in the development of the Quantity Surveying profession.

INTRODUCTION

Student industrial work experience Scheme (SIWES) is a training programme organized by industrial training fund (ITF) it’s primary objective is to provide an avenue for student in Nigeria Universities, Polytechnics to acquire industrial skills and experiences in their course of study though this scheme student are given an opportunity to experience the industrial applications of the classroom theories, which In turn equip them to face world’s fast developing technology.

During this programme student are usually attached to and industry, company or firm for a year of 4 months after which the submit a written report covering the training period.

I was opportune to carry out two training at Basse Engineering & Michel Ltd. No. 73 Idoro road, Uyo Akwa Ibom State which lasted for four months from November, 2021 to March 2022.

Quantity surveying as a profession occupies the most unique and strategic position in Nigeria’s struggle for national development. It embodies measurement and valuation and this is total in nation development, construction of roads, buildings etc.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS

The department should ensure via regular visit that his/her students are placed and working not just in a company or firm but in the department related to his/her course of study.

Visitation of student at their place of attachment should be carried out at least twice within the period of their attachment.

Finally I hereby recommend that the SIWES, ITF should liaise more with companies/Firms in addition to provision agreement in security placement via students training.

Leving of drains, Reinforcement of drain, casting of wall for blinding. Taxation of culvent, 1.6 x 1.4 meter and depth 1.6m by 1.4 meter width.

JANAURY

WEEK ONE TO WEEK FOUR

Production of alphat, pouring or base cover regular vist to site, Excavation and form work.

FEBRUARY

Production, instruction with stone, use of machinery.

EXPERIENCE

From the Industrial Training I have been able to learn how to construction work is been done and the use of surveying equipment are been used. I say a very big thank you the manager and staff of Base Engineering & Michel Ltd. 73, Idoro road, Uyo Akwa Ibom State for accepting me.

 

SUGGESTION

From my experience during (IT) I suggest that every industries in Nigeria should always open up to accept anybody who come to their company.

I suggest that Federal Government should try and be paying the student because of financially problem can cause a student not to go his/her IT work every day.

Lastly school should be sending out letter to firm or company for easy access to work.
