ABSTRACT
This study aims to create an accurate and up-to-date street guide map of Biu Town, Borno State, Nigeria, using geospatial techniques. The research addresses the need for a reliable digital map that can aid urban planning, navigation, and infrastructure development in Biu. Traditional paper maps often become outdated quickly due to urban expansion and dynamic environments, hence the importance of a digital solution. The study utilizes geospatial technologies such as GIS and satellite imagery to collect, analyze, and visualize spatial data including road networks, landmarks, and points of interest within Biu. Methodology involves data acquisition through satellite imagery and questionnaire surveys, digitizing features using Google Earth Pro and ArcMap, and map editing to produce a comprehensive street guide map. The research findings present a detailed map of Biu Township with labeled roads and categorized features such as major roads, tarred roads, untarred roads, banks, educational centers, hospitals, hotels, and barracks. The study concludes that computer technology and GIS play vital roles in modernizing mapmaking processes, offering efficient tools for managing land resources and urban development. Recommendations include the adoption of standardized street naming formats, the installation of signboards for navigation aid, and the extension of street mapping projects to cover the entire local government area. Further revisions and updates to the map are suggested to accommodate future developments in the town. The study contributes to enhancing navigation, urban planning, and decision-making processes in Biu Town and similar urban areas.…
