A classroom collapses at Yobe School

A classroom collapses at Yobe School, killing a student and injuring four others.

At Government Girls Science and Technical College Potiskum, Yobe State, a hallway leading to a block of two classrooms collapsed, resulting in the confirmed death of one student and the injuries of four others in varied degrees.

The pupils were preparing to leave for their lunch break on Thursday when the incident occurred around noon.

During a press briefing on the event, Bukar Aji, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, stated that the injured students from the SSII of the GGSTC Potiskum are being treated at the Specialist Hospital in Potiskum.

He added that the State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has been summoned to investigate the incident’s underlying cause and provide a report.

The Permanent Secretary expressed sympathy to the families of the injured students and the students who died but also assured them that the government would always take proactive steps to preserve all of its facilities to prevent future incidents.
